How to join?

Any individual engaged in working life or studying within higher education is welcome to join an Akava affiliate union. The unions welcome students, employees, self-employed professionals and entrepreneurs. The jaseneksi.fi service will help you in finding a suitable union on the basis of your field of education or your degree.

If you are in working life, you can contact the shop steward or representative of Akava unions at your workplace and they will assist you in selecting a suitable union.


The Finnish Association of Academic Agronomists

Academic Agronomists links the food chain experts

The Finnish Association of Academic Agronomists has approx. 6,000 members who are higher education graduates or students in the fields of agriculture, food science, human nutrition, consumer issues or environmental sciences and other related disciplines.

Our members are employed in different expert or management positions in companies, non-profit organisations, government agencies and research institutes representing the agricultural and food industries, as well as in the service of municipalities or health care. The membership also includes students, entrepreneurs, farmers and senior citizens in the field.

We advocate your interests: Security in work – joy in life

We look after the interests of our members in terms of salary development, professional advancement and social policies. We seek to promote the appreciation for the field and experts therein while also fostering a sense of togetherness among our members. We pursue to safeguard a competitive salary level and appropriate terms for employment relationships as well as to promote the well-being of our membership.

Who can join

The Association approves as members anyone who has completed or is studying for a degree in an academic university or a university of applied sciences in the following fields:
- food sciences
- home economics or consumer sciences
- agricultural sciences
- nutritional sciences
- environmental sciences, applied biosciences, or any fields closely related to these disciplines.
It is at the discretion of the Board to accept as members any individual working in these fields or corresponding tasks who has taken a university degree or a Master’s degree at a university of applied sciences in another field than those listed above.
